Skipper Science Programs are an opportunity for collaborative research centering fishermen to answer research questions, create and maintain monitoring networks and capture data to further resilient fisheries. Programs are co-developed with fishermen to ensure the scope and data collection form are relevant and applicable to reality on the water.

St. Paul Island Fleet: Central Bering Sea Fishermen's Association (CBSFA)

St. Paul Island fishermen collect halibut and ecosystem data to support local fisheries and Bering Sea research.

Who else knows more about changing ocean conditions than those who make their living on the water? By submitting data from the fishing grounds we can better understand, maintain, and protect our fisheries in the face of shifting ecosystems and declines in fisheries health. Data can be used to detect environmental changes, inform fishery management, and push for policy action. Use your expertise to inform the science.
